“Answered prayers are scary.” {page 62}
Boy, she’s not kidding.
I’ve been immersed in “going green” for some time now. I talk about it, try to live it, tell others, I even started a market in my community that is all about green, sustainable living.
So, it was a natural fit when I started thinking (and talking about) writing a “green” column in the local newspaper. I talked about it for a good couple of months, wrote articles in my head, pondered what good messages I could get across, etc.
Then I pitched the idea to the editor of the local newspaper.
And he accepted.
*Gulp.*
My initial feeling was elation. However, that only lasted a few minutes until fear took over. I was downright scared. Yes, I knew this stuff and I love researching and learning more but I kept thinking, “I’m in over my head. What if I really can’t do this?”
This answered prayer does imply responsibility for me and sometimes it does seem much easier and more fun to daydream about what things might be like if they happened. But, that’s the thing about daydreaming: If you think about it, plan for it, act like it is going to happen, it usually does.
Synchronicity.
Of course, in this case, I actually pitched the idea to the editor but I fully believe that if the Universe had not wanted me to have the column, the editor would not have accepted. And I believe that all the thought and energy I put into it beforehand made all the difference in the world.
I’ve said before that honing your sense of intuition and synchronicity makes even more synchronicity come about. That is the absolute truth. That’s why it is so important to jot down little notes when you notice moments of synchronicity. Even little things… think of a metal flower and see if you don’t, within an hour or so, see some form or a metal flower.
Synchronicity is a powerful and beautiful thing when put to good use. Quite honestly, it fascinates me and I get giddy with excitement when I see examples of it in my own life.
** Have you noticed any synchronicity in your life since starting this course? Do you pay better attention now?
I’m not entirely sure I understand the concept of synchronocity. Is it when what’s supposed to happen at that particular time happens? If so, I guess I have experienced it in my life, but rarely. I remember when I was in my early 40’s and both my hubby and I were in dire need of a job. I had had two teaching interviews, one for Clark County in Nevada and one here in Muncie at a Catholic school. I told God that I needed a job and I wanted Him to choose. So…does that qualify as synchronocity? I am uncertain, but I tell you that it was wonderful. I taught there for 19 years, years filled with gratitude and wonder being in a place that lifted my spirits and made me happy to be a teacher.
Hey Norma,
It sounds like you got an answered prayer!
Synchronicity is a little bit different. It’s a coincidence that’s meaningful. Usually, when it happens, you feel like that event was “meant to be.”
A few years ago, I was looking for one of my books and couldn’t find it. Karen Beth had no idea about the book, but she found the exact same one at a thrift store and mailed it to me, because she thought it was something I’d like. When I opened the box, I couldn’t believe she’d sent me THAT BOOK without us ever talking about it.
That was crazy synchronicity. 😉
I do like synchronicity ……I found three places that I took art lessons – through synchronicity…One was a watercolor class – I went to an arts and crafts show and talked to one of the artists – and she said that she taught art lessons at her house. I took classes there for one semester..I didn’t really like the class thought..We all had to paint the same thing in the same colors and the other women all knew each other for years….Then I met another art teacher through the art therapist at the group home where I worked for 14 years. One of my work friends asked the art therapist – if he knew anyone who taught art lessons – as I was looking for an art teacher. He said that his wife did. I took lessons with his wife at her art studio on and off for about 14 years…When I got a 9-5 job, I had to drop out of her class – which was in the am..
I found my most current art class – when I happened upon the art studio in a shopping mall that was made from an old factory building…I had read about the shopping area and had read that there was a good bookstore in the shopping area on a website of a self-help author – who lives near there…I took a drive and found the shopping area, wandered through and discovered the art studio. I have been going there for 2 years…I do enjoy the studio classes because the students can their own type/style of art – and she walks around and gives us help – based on our own needs….It is such a good way to be creative!!
I also found a Chinese fortune in my car when I de-cluttered it – last week….”Don’t let unexpected situations throw you”
ps Karen Beth…congratulations on the column!!!!!
yes, congrats!
Synchronicity is such a major part of my life. Once again…. now that I am aware of it….it’s everywhere.
I think I have noticed synchronicity in my life for as long as I have lived. The problem is, i rarely move forward with the opportunity that synchronicity sets in front of me.
Last week I was making a list of all the things I would need to do if I wanted to become a well-known art quilter. One of the items on my list was to enter a competition in the next year. A few days ago I was browsing a few quilting websites trying to kill some time and came across a competition that really excited me. Not only that but there is an idea that I have been tinkering with in my sketchbook that fits the criteria of the competition to a t.
But the next day I found myself second guessing the experience and thinking it would be too much work to get the project ready in time. But something tells me that there was some synchronicity in this and maybe I should follow this one through.
Twice this week, just picking up the phone to call someone, sealing a note to someone. The phone rings and there they are.
